Roman Czejarek’s podcast on Jan Heweliusz ferry disaster nominated for major journalism award

Polish Radio journalist Roman Czejarek has been nominated for the 2025 Grand Press Award in the “Audio Reportage and Documentary” category for his series “Heweliusz: The True Story.”

The series tells the story of the 1993 Jan Heweliusz ferry disaster, recently depicted in a Netflix dramatization, using archival interviews with people who experienced the tragedy.

The production, created by Czejarek for Polish Radio using archival recordings, has already been listened to 2.7 million times.

This year’s winners of one of Poland’s most prestigious journalism prizes will be announced on 14 December during the Grand Press Awards gala.
