Roman Czejarek’s podcast on Jan Heweliusz ferry disaster nominated for major journalism award

Polish Radio journalist Roman Czejarek has been nominated for the 2025 Grand Press Award in the “Audio Reportage and Documentary” category for his series “Heweliusz: The True Story.”

The production, created by Czejarek for Polish Radio using archival recordings, has already been listened to 2.7 million times.

The series explores the 1993 ferry disaster of Jan Heweliusz, recently dramatized by Netflix, and is based on archival interviews with those affected by the tragedy.

The podcast is available on the Polish Radio website (polskieradio.pl) as well as on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

This year’s winners of one of Poland’s most prestigious journalism prizes will be announced on 14 December during the Grand Press Awards gala.
