In the reportage category, Poland's entry is Heweliusz: The True Story, a podcast by Roman Czejarek examining the 1993 sinking of the Jan Heweliusz ferry, regarded as the worst peacetime maritime disaster in Polish history.

The ferry sank on January 14, 1993, while travelling from the Polish port city of Świnoujście to Ystad in Sweden, killing 56 of the 65 passengers and crew on board.

The podcast combines archival recordings with new interviews with relatives of the victims and others affected by the tragedy, while revisiting questions surrounding the causes of the disaster.

Poland's entry in the radio drama category is The Himalayas, inspired by the life of legendary Polish mountaineer Jerzy Kukuczka, who became the second person after Reinhold Messner to climb all 14 of the world’s peaks above 8,000 metres.

Kukuczka died in 1989 at age 41 during an attempt to climb Lhotse.

The drama was written by Dariusz Kortko, Marcin Pietraszewski and Artur Pałyga of Polish Radio Katowice and directed by Robert Talarczyk.

In the music category, Poland submitted Chvost, produced by Ewa Szkurłat of Polish Radio Kraków.

The production focuses on vocalist Paulina Bisztyga and music producer Minoo, who reinterpret forgotten folk songs, particularly stories focusing on women and the role of music in coping with everyday hardships.

The 78th annual Prix Italia festival is scheduled to take place in central Italian city of L'Aquila from September 28 to October 2.
