Verses by Polish poets on display in London's Tube

Verses by two Polish poets have been included in the Poems on the Underground project in London's subway system.

Krystyna Lenkowska's When I Was a Fish and Tadeusz Dąbrowski's Letter are featured, alongside works including William Shakespeare's Song from The Merchant of Venice.

Born in 1957, Lenkowska is an award-winning poet and translator whose work includes a Polish edition of selected poems by Emily Dickinson.

Her poem When I Was a Fish was translated into English by the author and Cecilia Woloch.

Dąbrowski, born in 1979, has won numerous awards, including the Kościelski Prize, the Literary Award of the City of Warsaw, Germany's Hubert Burda Prize and the Foundation for Polish Culture Prize.

His work has been translated into 30 languages. Two of his poetry collections, Black Square and Posts, have been published by Zephyr Press in translations by Antonia Lloyd-Jones, who also translated Letter.

Now in its 40th year, Poems on the Underground brings "creativity into the heart of everyday journeys, giving millions of customers a moment to pause, reflect and connect with voices from around the world," according to the organisers.
