Born in Utrecht on 3 July 1632, Tylman van Gameren designed the Palace of the Commonwealth, as well as many other buildings in Warsaw, including the Ostrogski Palace, the Pac Palace and the monastery complex of the Sacramentine Sisters in the New Town.

He also was responsible for palaces in Puławy, Nieborów and Białystok.

"Tylman van Gameren was among those creators who not only designed buildings, but also helped shape the identity of Warsaw," said Rafał Szczepański, a social activist and entrepreneur.

The event, taking place beside the Palace of the Commonwealth, also known as the Krasiński Palace, will feature works by Bach, Vivaldi, Händel and Monteverdi performed by the female string quartet kwARTEt.

Architect and educator Radosław Gajda will speak about baroque Warsaw and Tylman van Gameren's legacy.

The Palace of the Commonwealth, originally built as the Krasiński Palace in the late 17th century, has housed the National Library's most valuable collections since its post-war reconstruction.

Following a renovation completed in 2023, it was opened to visitors for the first time in its history.
