The East of Culture project connects Polish cities with countries from the Eastern Partnership, aiming to promote cultural exchange and dialogue between them.

The festival blends history with contemporary artistic expression, and organisers say it highlights the multicultural heritage of Poland's eastern Podlaskie region — an area where Poles, Russians, Belarusians, Tatars, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Jews and Germans have lived side by side for centuries.

The festival opened in Rzeszów before moving to Lublin, where it was staged under the title "Different Sounds."

It now arrives in Białystok, where it runs from 9 to 12 July as the "East of Culture: Another Dimension" festival.

For the first time, the north-eastern city of Suwałki is joining the festival, with a programme of films by the Oscar-winning Polish director Andrzej Wajda, under the title "Wajda Anew."

The event will bring together a number of Polish actors who appeared in the late director's films, alongside a concert of music from Wajda's films performed by the Adam Sztaba Orchestra.
