HIGH NOTE :: In a galaxy of its own... the Baltic Opera Festival

The 2026 edition brought an enthralling production of Wagner's "Die Walküre" to the Forest Opera, revived Joseph Beer's "Polish Wedding", and celebrated the music of Krzysztof Penderecki.

Die Walküre directed by John Fulljames which was staged at the Forest Opera in Sopot within the Festival, was co-produced with the Royal Danish Opera and the Greek National Opera. For many opera lovers, this was the main attraction in the programme (especially because of Tomasz Konieczny singing Wotan; and as Wagner is rarely staged by Polish theatres) which drew them in thousands to the Forest Opera in the first days of July, armed with blankets against the evening chill and damp.  

Tomasz Konieczny, artistic director of the Baltic Opera Festival, Béatrice Beer, daughter of Joseph Beer, and BOF benefactor Diana Paine, member of the Sponsors Board of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, are speaking to Elżbieta Krajewska
