Set in 1949, Fatherland explores the relationship between Nobel Prize-winning German writer Thomas Mann and his daughter.
Directed and co-written by Pawlikowski, the film is his third feature to represent Poland in the Oscar race.
In 2015, Pawlikowski won an Academy Award for Ida, while in 2019 he picked up nominations for Cold War.
The 99th Academy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 14, 2027.
