Polish-German film to compete for awards at Venice festival

A new film co-directed by Poland’s Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert has been selected for the main competition of the 77th International Venice Film Festival, which will be held from September 2 to 12.

Entitled Never Gonna Snow Again, the film is the story of a young Ukrainian who arrives in Poland in search of employment and lands a job in a Warsaw massage parlour.

The cast includes Alec Utgoff in the main part and leading Polish actors Maja Ostaszewska, Agata Kulesza, Weronika Rosati, Katarzyna Figura and Andrzej Chyra.

The feature, which is a joint Polish-German production, is among 18 films that will be competing for the Golden Lion award at the Venice festival.

Festival submissions include Dear Comrades by Andrei Konchalovsky, Wife of a Spy by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Sun Children by Majid Majidi, Pieces of a Woman by Kornel Mundruczo, and Laila in Haifa by Amos Gitai, with Polish actor Andrzej Seweryn in the lead role.

The festival jury is chaired by Australian actress Cate Blanchett.
