The concerts will culminate with two special recitals at the city’s National Philharmonic Hall on March 1 and 2 by Canadian pianist Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu, the winner of last year’s International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
The March 1 recital will be carried live on the Youtube channel of the National Chopin Institute, the organizer of the events.
In line with a long-standing tradition, at noon that day, a recital will be given at Chopin’s birthplace of Żelazowa Wola, some 50 km west of Warsaw.
This year’s soloist is Piotr Alexewicz, a participant in the 2021 International Chopin Competition.
Other pianists to be featured in Warsaw include Martin Garcia Garcia, Third Prize winner at last year’s Chopin Competition, and Poland’s Mateusz Krzyżowski and Adam Kałduński.
The Chopin Museum has planned a wide range of educational events for various age groups, offering tickets for a token price of PLN 1.
The exact date of the composer's birth is subject to debate, with his birth certificate stating February 22, 1810 and family tradition insisting on March 1 of that year.
