Warsaw opera house unveils plans for next season

The National Opera in Warsaw has unveiled its plans for the 2022/2023 season.

The season will open on October 7 with Chorus Opera, a production featuring a selection of opera choruses from works by Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, Bizet, Leoncavallo and 19th-century composer Stanisław Moniuszko, who is hailed as the father of Polish national opera.

Other highlights include two premieres directed by Mariusz Treliński, the company's artistic director. These are Giuseppe Verdi’s The Force of Destiny and Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes.

The Force of Destiny is a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Polish opera fans will also have the chance to see Astor Piazzolla’s tango opera Maria de Buenos Aires, and a ballet triple bill with music by Beethoven.

A wide range of revivals is also planned, including Aida, Rigoletto, Tosca, Carmen, Madama Butterflyand Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor directed by David Pountney.
