Chajdecki has been included in the longlist for the 2022 WSA Public Choice Award on the basis of a selection made in tandem with the International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA).
His nomination is for The Champion, a film by director Maciej Barczewski that tells the story of Tadeusz ‘Teddy’ Pietrzykowski, a pre-World War II Polish boxing champion who during the war spent three years at the German concentration camp of Auschwitz where he was forced to fight in the ring for his and other prisoners’ lives.
Chajdecki told the media: “I’m extremely happy that my music for The Champion has been recognized by the selection panel and that it has received rave reviews from Polish and foreign critics."
He added: "It is a great honour for me to be included among the prestigious group of composers from across the world. It is also a mark of recognition for the entire production team of The Champion, a film that brought back the memory of the boxer from Auschwitz.”
A Polish critic wrote that the film “shows Pietrzykowski as a symbol of hope for victory over Nazi terror and of the fight to preserve human dignity in a place whose goal was to deprive man of dignity.”
Chajdecki’s contenders for the WSA Public Choice Award include leading film score composers such as Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat and Jonny Greenwood.
Chajdecki, 42, has won acclaim and several international prizes for his soundtracks to a range of Polish film and TV productions.
Voting for the 2022 WSA Public Choice Award runs until August 22 at www.worldsoundtrackawards.com.
The awards ceremony will be held during the film festival in Ghent, Belgium, on October 22.
