The tour opens on Thursday and includes performances in Elizabeth, New Jersey (Sept. 30), New York (Oct. 1), Philadelphia (Oct. 2), Worcester, Massachusetts (Oct. 4), Albany (Oct. 5), Buffalo (Oct. 6), Cleveland, Ohio (Oct. 7), and Chicago, Illinois (Oct. 8 and 9).
The event’s motto is "Around the World in 80 Minutes," and the programme of the concerts comprises not only staple Polish folk songs and dances, such as the kujawiak, oberek, krakowiak and polonaise, but also Hungarian, Spanish, Irish, Slovak and Hasidic Jewish dances, as well as popular Japanese, Greek, Italian and American songs, including "America the Beautiful."
Based in Koszęcin, in Poland's southern Silesia region, the Śląsk (Silesia) Song and Dance Ensemble was founded almost seven decades ago.
Upcoming plans include performances in Japan and France. Gala concerts to mark the ensemble’s 70th anniversary are scheduled for early summer 2023 in Warsaw and Koszęcin.
