The all-Polish programme includes String Quartet No. 4 by Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969), String Quartet No. 3 by Mieczysław Weinberg (1919-1996), and Piano Quintet in G minor Op. 34 by Juliusz Zarębski (1854-1885).
Polish pianist Wojciech Świtała will join the Silesian String Quartet for the performance of the Zarębski piece.
The Silesian String Quartet was founded in 1978 in the southern Polish city of Katowice. Its repertoire includes over 400 pieces of chamber music, most of which are by 20th- and 21st-century composers.
The Polish musicians have performed at numerous festivals across Europe as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong, in such prestigious venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Salle Pleyel in Paris, and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
The discography of the Silesian String Quartet includes almost 50 albums for various labels, including Chandos, Naxos, EMI Poland, Olympia, and CD Accord.
Its recording of the complete quartets of Grażyna Bacewicz won a Gramophone Award and was described by BBC Music Magazine as "a tremendous achievement."
The Silesian String Quartet's CDs of Zarębski’s Piano Quintet and Weinberg’s music were equally acclaimed.
The current members of the Silesian String Quartet are Szymon Krzeszowiec and Arkadiusz Kubica (violin), Łukasz Syrnicki (viola) and Piotr Janosik (cello).
