The US streaming giant has just unveiled a first collection of stills from Rojst/The Mire - Millennium, after shooting for the new season concluded in April, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The six-parter, provisionally slated for release in 2024, promises to develop the stories of familiar characters, with actors such as Magdalena Różczka, Łukasz Simlat, Andrzej Seweryn, and Dawid Ogrodnik reprising their roles, according to Netflix.
Joining the cast this season is one of Poland's best known and most loved actors Janusz Gajos, along with Tomasz Schuchardt, Filip Pławiak, Marianna Gierszewska, Michalina Łabacz, and Konrad Eleryk, the PAP news agency reported.
The popular series gets its name Rojst from a Polish word for a type of dark swamp, symbolising the murky political and societal landscape explored in the production.
The story, initially set in the 1980s in a fictional town of Gronty, explores the complex intertwining of political and personal lives in a society marred by corruption, conspiracy, and crime, according to Netflix.
The new episodes promise to not only solve certain mysteries left hanging at the close of Season Two but also to explore the stories of new characters and their criminal pasts, including Jassijej, portrayed by Gajos, the PAP news agency reported.
Over six episodes, Rojst/The Mire - Millennium will delve further into the lives of beloved characters: Anna Jass (Magdalena Różczka), Witold Wanycz (Andrzej Seweryn), Adam Miki (Łukasz Simlat), and Piotr Zarzycki (Dawid Ogrodnik), according to Netflix.
Also making a return will be the hotel manager, played by Piotr Fronczewski, Nadia, played by Agnieszka Żulewska, and Dzidzi, portrayed by Michał Pawlik.
In a statement accompanying the first official images from the set, Netflix has also teased the viewers with what is in store for the upcoming season: "A time of change is coming. People anxiously await the new millennium. Meanwhile, in the forest of Gronty, a woman's skeleton with a necklace has been uncovered, and a murder occurs during a birthday banquet at the Centrum hotel. Who and what is behind all this?”
The story of Rojst/The Mire - Millennium “traces back to the 60s to find the key to the crime mystery," reporters were told.
Netflix promises that viewers of the new series, co-created by director Jan Holoubek and writer Kasper Bajon, can expect another feast of "an intriguing story with elements of black and absurd humour."
