The tour will be followed by eight concerts by Polish jazz pianist Michał Ciesielski and his trio in the second half of this month, and a series of 10 gigs by the Tomasz Chyła Quintet in the second half of October.
The concerts mark the Polish musicians’ return to China after a three-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The performances are organised by the Jazz Po Polsku Foundation as part of its latest Dookoła Świata (Around the World) project.
According to the foundation’s Jakub Krzeszowski, the project is inspired by the achievements of Polish traveller and scientist Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, the first Pole who explored all the continents, except the Antarctic.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Strzelecki's death.
During their Chinese tour this month and next, the Polish jazz musicians are billed to perform in 10 cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, in both large concert halls and top jazz clubs such as Blue Note, JZ Club and Lavo.
