The festival began on Sunday with a concert by the Kyiv Piano Duo performing a selection of music for two pianos and four hands by composers such as Yenhen Stankovych, Yevhen Orkin and Miroslav Skorik.

Other composers featured included Mykhailo Shved, Oleh Bezborodko, Igor Shcherbakov and Bohdana Frolyak.

The Kyiv Piano Duo is made up of Oleksandra Zaitseva and Dmytro Tavanets.

On Tuesday, Poland's Wrocław Baroque Ensemble under Andrzej Kosendiak will perform two works for eight-voice choir by the 17th-century Ukrainian composer Mykola Dyletsky, Funeral Liturgy and Resurrection/Easter Canon.

The festival’s final concert on September 10 will feature the Orchestra of the National Music Forum from Wrocław, southwestern Poland, and the proModern Vocal Sextet conducted by Roman Rewakowicz.

The concert's programme includes two world premieres: Bohdana Frolyak’s Concerto for oboe and orchestra, with Igor Leschishin as the soloist, and Olena Ilnytska’s To Victory.

The Ukrainian Music Days festival is the brainchild of Rewakowicz, a Ukrainian-born conductor who is the founder of the Pro Musica Viva foundation, the main organiser of the event.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Pro Musica Viva, whose aim is to promote Ukrainian music in Poland and Polish music in Ukraine.
