The winning movie tells the story of Polish-American independence hero Tadeusz 'Kos' Kościuszko who aims to ignite an uprising against the Russians with the help of Polish gentry and peasants in 1794.
His loyal friend and ex-slave, Domingo, accompanies him. They're pursued by a ruthless Russian cavalry captain, Dunin, hell-bent on capturing Kos before a national revolt begins.
In the film, Kościuszko is portrayed by Jacek Braciak. Scarborn also features renowned Polish actors Robert Więckiewicz, Andrzej Seweryn and Agnieszka Grochowska.
Director Olga Chajdas' Imago won the festival’s Silver Lions Award, and the people’s choice award was claimed by The Peasants, a hand-painted animation by the directorial duo of D.K. Welchman (formerly known as Dorota Kobiela) and Hugh Welchman.
Platinum Lions, Polish Film Festival’s special award for lifetime achievements, went to production designer Allan Starski.
The annual Polish Film Festival, first held in 1974, is one of the oldest film festivals in Europe.
The festival provides Poland's most prestigious showcase of new home-grown movies, and 16 films competed in the main competition this year.
