The annual prizes are handed out “for special contribution to Polish culture” in four categories, Music, Word, Idea and Image, Polish Radio’s polskieradio24.pl website reported.
The nominations in the four categories were announced at a news conference in Warsaw on Tuesday.
Krzysztof Czabański, the head of the National Media Council (RMN), told reporters that showcasing Polish culture was the "overriding mission" of the country’s public media.
He added that “nobody does more to popularise Polish culture and support its creators than public media outlets,” state news agency PAP reported.
Polish Radio CEO Agnieszka Kamińska said that the Public Media Awards allowed public broadcasters “to promote the essential values of Polish culture.”
She noted that Polish Radio sponsored the Public Media Award in the Music category, which she said was "an especially important domain” for the public broadcaster.
Kamińska also said that Polish Radio was “delighted to bring to the public the music of the wonderful artists nominated for this year’s prize.”
The nominees for the 2023 Public Media Awards include producer and director Michał Kwieciński in the Image category; poet, journalist and translator Ernest Bryll in the Word category; singer-songwriter Stan Borys in the Idea category; and multi-instrumentalist Maria Pomianowska in the Music category, polskieradio24.pl reported.
Public Media Awards are granted annually by Polish Radio, television broadcaster TVP and the PAP news agency.
The 2023 prizes will be handed out at a ceremony in Warsaw on November 12.
