The film, a Polish-Danish-Swedish co-production, is loosely based on the true story of Danish serial killer Dagmar Overbye, who helped impoverished women kill their unwanted children and was sentenced to death in 1921, a verdict that was later changed to life in prison.
Von Horn wrote the script for The Girl with the Needle with Danish scriptwriter Line Langebek.
The film was shot mostly in Poland. The cinematography was in the hands of Poland’s Michał Dymek, and Polish artists were responsible for editing (Agnieszka Glińska), production design (Jagna Dobesz) and costume design (Małgorzata Fudala).
Von Horn, 39, is a graduate of the famous film school in the Polish city of Łódź. He lives in Poland.
