Gaude Polonia in Latin means "Rejoice, Poland," reflecting the celebratory spirit of the annual scholarship program, which plays a crucial role in fostering international cultural cooperation and strengthening the European Union's Eastern Partnership initiative.
Since 2003, the program has been awarding scholarships to artists from across Central and Eastern Europe. It offers not only financial support but also an opportunity for knowledge and experience exchange among creators throughout the region.
The scholarship certificates were presented to the winners by Polish Deputy Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska during a ceremony at the Palace of the Republic in Warsaw on Wednesday.
"Culture is the foundation of our community, and its development helps in shaping open and tolerant societies," Cienkowska said. "I am convinced that by supporting artists from our region, we are not only strengthening cultural ties but also building a lasting and integrated community of Central and Eastern European countries."
Gaude Polonia scholarships are available to artists up to the age of 40, or occasionally up to 45, who have made significant contributions to their respective fields.
This year’s support comes to around PLN 3 million (EUR 700,000, USD 760,000). The funds are intended for visual artists, filmmakers, Polish literature translators, art conservators, museum professionals, historians and art critics.
Participants can use the scholarship to cover the costs of their six-month stay in Poland.
They also benefit from the guidance of a tutor and receive advice from prominent Polish cultural figures as well as support from cultural institutions.
