Poland’s Tomasz Ritter wins prestigious piano competition in Belgium

Polish pianist Tomasz Ritter has scooped the top prize at the the Musica Antiqua Fortepiano Competition in Bruges, the capital of West Flanders in Belgium. It is one of the premier events of its type focusing on early music.

Tomasz Ritter, the winner of the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments, has won First Prize at the Musica Antiqua Fortepiano Competition 2024 in Bruges.

In addition to a cash prize, Ritter takes home the promise of several future solo engagements, including at next year’s Musica Antiqua Festival in Bruges, as well as the opportunity to record a CD for the Ricercar label.

Ritter, 29, is the winner of the 1st International Chopin Competition on Historical Instruments, which was held in Warsaw in 2018.

The success paved him the way for a fine career, which has included tours across Europe and to Japan, performances of chamber music with the likes of Kvarteto Martinů and Stradivari Quartett, as well as several CD recordings.

On August 20, Ritter is set to perform Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto on a historical instrument during the Chopin and His Europe Festival in Warsaw.
