The Wieniawski Society has also conveyed its expressions of sorrow regarding the artist's death.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Janusz Olejniczak, the esteemed Polish pianist and one of the finest interpreters of Chopin" they shared on social media.

Stanisław Leszczyński, the director of the Chopin and His Europe Festival in Warsaw, has told Polish Radio 2, the public broadcaster’s arts-and-music channel, that he was the first “to demonstrate the beauty of Chopin’s music performed on period instruments”.

Aleksander Laskowski, spokeman for the National Chopin Institute, said that Olejniczak was a wonderful teacher, who had an innate ability to communicate the beauty of Chopin’s music not only in the concert hall but also in his contacts with young people.

Composer and pianist Zygmunt Krauze described Olejniczak as a sensitive and delicate personality, a charismatic musician, incredibly sincere in his interpretations”. He added: “Chopin was his whole world”.

Olejniczak himself used to say that Chopin’s music was for him “like a bird of paradise, which constantly slipps through our fingers”.

Conductor and composer Jerzy Maksymiuk told the Polish Press Agency that  Olejniczak played Chopin as he was performing a  new piece created  at that very moment. “It was like composing anew”, he said, adding that Olejniczak  had a fine sense of humour, loved a good joke and was always open to new ideas.
