The new building will be located in the village of Obory, part of the Konstancin-Jeziorna municipality near Warsaw. Since 2020, the palace and park complex in this area has been owned by a Polish family of entrepreneurs involved in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The estate, which is set to be revitalized, is one of the few examples of manor house architecture in the Mazovian region, including a manor house, an annex, a stable, and another annex at the entrance.

The manor was built between 1681-1688 as the residence of Count Jan Wielopolski, and its later owners, including Mieczysław Potulicki, made several modifications, including the addition of a chapel.

After World War II, the manor became the property of the Polish Writers’ Union, and following its restitution in 2020, the estate was handed over to the Starak Family Foundation.

The manor in Obory, likely built between 1681-1688 as a suburban residence for Count Jan Wielopolski, was designed by the renowned Warsaw-based architect Tylman van Gameren. The Foundation has presented a plan to revitalize the estate, which includes the construction of a museum designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. The site is intended to become a cultural and educational hub for various events.

The realization of the project will require changes to the local zoning plan, as the area is under the protection of the Mazovian Heritage Conservator.

87-year-old Renzo Piano is considered one of the most prominent contemporary architects. The master is known for designs that blend modernity with a respect for history and the context of the site.

In 1998, he was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize. His most famous projects include the Centre Pompidou in Paris (designed with Richard Rogers), Kansai International Airport in Osaka, The Shard in London, and the Paul Klee Museum in Bern.

The legendary architect was also a guest at the famous TED Talks.
