Poland's Andrzej Duda and Germany's Frank-Walter Steinmeier are expected to hold face-to-face talks in the Polish capital to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine before leading broader talks by officials from the two countries.

Steinmeier's visit also includes a tête-à-tête between the two presidential couples at Warsaw's Belweder Palace around noon, according to Jakub Kumoch, a top aide to the Polish head of state.

Steinmeier’s Warsaw trip is his first official foreign visit since he was reelected in February, Kumoch told reporters.

"It's a nice gesture toward Poland, Germany's largest trading partner and neighbour, and toward President Duda, with whom Steinmeier has a personal, friendly relationship," Kumoch said.

After the meeting, Duda is expected to travel to the southeastern Polish city of Rzeszów to meet with his counterparts from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The aim of his talks with Lithuania's Gitanas Nausėda, Latvia's Egils Levits and Estonia's Alar Karis will be to "coordinate the policies of all four countries in the face of the growing crisis and changes in Russian tactics in the war in Ukraine," according to Kumoch.
