Launched in 1975, the annual exhibition is one of the oldest and most important events of its kind, showcasing the latest trends in modern artistic textiles, according to organizers.
The motto of this year’s event, “Entangled State,” is taken from the dictionary of physics, specifically quantum mechanics, according to the Textile Museum's website, and “it seems to define at the metaphoric level a range of phenomena we observe in our world," which is "torn between fear and hope, between a need for satisfying private interests and obligations towards society.”
The organizers of the event further say: “Observing these tensions cannot be a justification for our indifference any longer. Finding something that combines our attitudes is a particular task for artists. Their abilities to combine and to briefly describe distant terms and phenomena give them the most excellent chance to find a theory that will weld the world broken to pieces.”
On display are 54 works by artists from across the world. They were chosen by an international selection panel from almost 500 submissions.
In addition to the main exhibition, the Triennial includes a national exhibition of Polish tapestry, a display of works by Polish and international art school students, conferences, lectures, workshops and curatorial tours.
The event runs until April 14, 2023.
