The awards were given out on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.
Małgorzata Gosiewska, a deputy Speaker of Poland’s lower house of parliament, took part in the event. She said the Poles who received the medals had risked their own lives and the lives of their families to help Jews persecuted by the Nazi Germans during the Holocaust.
She added that around 27,000 Righteous Among the Nations medals have been awarded internationally so far, including about 7,000 to Poles.
The Righteous Among the Nations award is the highest Israeli civilian distinction. Recipients receive a medal with a quote from the Talmud saying: "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire."
