The country’s sports minister told reporters on Wednesday that the new "Sporting Vacation Plus" programme would promote a healthy lifestyle during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The drive, with a budget of PLN 10 million (EUR 2.2 million, USD 2.5 million), aims to support sports activities by children and young people, but also domestic tournaments and events, Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk said.

She added that the main aim was to encourage Poles “to stay active and do sports during the summer vacations."

More details will be unveiled later this month, Dmowska-Andrzejuk told a news conference in the north-central city of Bydgoszcz.

As it eases its coronavirus restrictions, Poland last month reopened outdoor sports areas and allowed football matches to be played behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, gyms, swimming pools and other indoor sports facilities were given the go-ahead to restart operations from June 6.

Polish football and speedway stadiums are set to reopen to spectators from June 19, while the Polish city of Chorzów is preparing to host a track-and-field meet on June 20.
