To compare, Belgium has 931 deaths per million residents since the start of the pandemic, according to new data released by the Polish health ministry on Tuesday, while Spain has 749 and Britain reports 662.
The list of countries severely hit by the coronavirus also includes Italy, with 620 deaths per million population, Sweden with 586, and France with 536, according to the Polish health ministry.
Austria and Croatia have a lower proportion of coronavirus deaths than Poland, each at 110 per million residents, while Greece has 56 and Poland's northeastern neighbor Lithuania reports 50, the new data found.
Poland on Tuesday reported a record rise in coronavirus infections, confirming 16,300 new cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country in early March.
On Saturday, October 24, the country reported its highest single-day toll of 179 deaths related to the coronavirus.
