Referring to recent attacks on churches during protests against tightening Poland’s abortion laws, Jarosław Kaczyński said: “As usual, you offered your help when it was needed, spontaneously engaging in the defense of churches and creating the Patriotic Guard (Straż Patriotyczna) under the slogan ‘Defend the Cross, Defend Poland’”.

He added: “Once again you have not failed us by resisting this extremely vulgar, barbaric nihilism which on a scale unprecedented in our history desecrated places of worship and religious symbols, attacked priests, and destroyed national sanctities”.

Kaczyński said: “As a camp of fidelity to faith and to Poland, we will be attacked from various sides in many ways”.

He added: "Let us defend Poland, let us defend everything that constitutes it and us, so that it would last and be a true home for future generations of Polish women and men. Please accept my sincere greetings".

Last month, Kaczyński called on supporters to defend churches, warning that “attacks” by pro-abortion protesters on places of worship aimed to "destroy Poland.”

“We have to defend Polish churches, we have to defend them at all cost,” Kaczyński said, after five straight days of demonstrations against a court ruling that signaled a tightening of the country’s already-strict abortion laws.

The street protests were sparked by a decision earlier last month by the country’s Constitutional Tribunal that would ban abortion in the case of fetal defects.

Activists opposed to tightened abortion rules have staged protests during church services in Warsaw and other Polish cities, spray-painting slogans on the exterior walls of church buildings.
