“We are strengthening the Polish armed forces,” Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak told reporters, adding that the Black Hawk is "a tried and tested helicopter that has been used by armies in 30 countries around the world.”

He congratulated PZL Mielec on the deal, saying the Polish contractor owned by the US defence giant Lockheed Martin would soon start co-producing military aircraft, the state PAP news agency reported.

“In the future, the collaboration between the Polish Army and PZL Mielec will be very dynamic,” Błaszczak said.

The new contract encompasses the delivery of four special-operations helicopters, complete with a training and logistics package, for Poland’s special forces, the PAP news agency reported.

It is the second such deal after a first batch of four Black Hawks were supplied in 2019, the defence ministry tweeted.

Two of the new Black Hawks are set to be delivered in 2023, Błaszczak said.

“It is important that the army is provided with modern equipment and the supply time is as short as possible,” he added.
