Tennis: Poland’s Linette enters second round of Wimbledon

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the second round of the Wimbledon tennis championships in London, with a straight-set win over Fernanda Contreras Gómez of Mexico.

The 30-year-old Pole overpowered the 24-year-old Mexican qualifier 6-1, 6-4 in their first-round women's singles match at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital on Monday.

Linette, who is ranked world No. 65 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face Germany's world No. 15 Angelique Kerber.  

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek was due to begin her Wimbledon campaign with a first-round clash against Croatia’s Jana Fett on Tuesday.
