Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, visitors have been posting messages of support and signing flags.

What began with two messages from children on the first day of the war quickly took a life of its own, with adults quickly following suit.

More than 1 million messages have been posted in different languages by people of different nationalities.

“We started from a small wall on the ground floor, but then it continued throughout the whole pavilion," Ivan Sydorenko, director-general of the Ukrainian Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai, told Danuta Isler.

"Our mission now is to inform our visitors about what is happening in Ukraine – that we have a war going on, that we have become the target of Russian aggression, and we are using our pavilion for this purpose now," he added.

The motto of the Ukrainian pavilion is “smart living, smart thinking, smart feelings,” with the Eastern European nation showcasing its thriving technology sector as well as cultural heritage.
