2022 marked 50 years since Polish para-athletes participated for the first time in Paralympic Games. They won 33 medals (14 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze) which placed Team Poland in the 6th position of overall medal ranking. One of them was para-swimmer Alina Wojtowicz-Pomierna.

Talking to Radio Poland she recalled meeting the neurosurgeon Sir Ludwig Guttman, considered “the father of the Paralympics", and her participation in the Paralympic Games in Heidelberg, Germany in 1972 at the age of 17!
