"The Ukrainians are winning this war because, although there are fewer of them, they are smarter, have strong morale and learn quickly,” Admiral Rob Bauer said.
On the first anniversary of Russia's invasion, he tweeted a message of support to the Ukrainian people.
"One year since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, my message to the Ukrainian people and armed forces still stands," Bauer said.
"I truly believe that with the right support and equipment, you can and will win this war," he added.
Bauer is the head of NATO's Military Committee, and on the anniversary of the war he agreed to answer questions about how he thinks Kyiv and the West are faring after a year of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Bauer spoke to Polish Radio’s Wojciech Cegielski.
