Disinformation drives down mandatory vaccinations in Poland: expert

Poland has lately seen a surge in cases of chickenpox, mumps and whooping cough, in part due to more people avoiding mandatory vaccinations.

According to Poland's National Institute of Public Health, the number of such people doubled between 2017 and 2021.

Prof. Dariusz Jemielniak, a researcher affiliated with Harvard University, claims that "convincing people not to vaccinate is a triumph for a totalitarian regime, as persuading enough individuals to refrain from vaccination will cause Poland to fall below the herd immunity threshold, which is not far off."
