Today, there are over 1,000 such facilities nationwide, according to lockme.pl, a website focusing on escape rooms in Poland.
In the second quarter of this year alone, 24 new escape rooms opened in the country.
The industry has survived quite a lot, including the COVID-19 pandemic and increased scrutiny following a tragic 2019 accident in which five teenage girls died after a fire broke out while they were playing an escape room game in northern Poland.
Radio Poland's Danuta Isler discussed themes, trends and prospects with Jakub Caban and Bartosz Idzikowski, the founders of Lockme.pl.
They told her that escape rooms are about "interactive group entertainment that will always be attractive because it offers a full immersion experience."
