Tuesday was UN Day, marking the official creation of the United Nations on October 24, 1945.
The day is traditionally commemorated throughout the world with meetings, discussions and exhibitions focusing on the organization's achievements and goals.
Poland celebrated the occasion with a UN Gala on Tuesday night organised by the UN Global Compact Network Poland to sum up the year's activities, recognize exceptional individuals and acknowledge partner companies.
"It is good to remember that we have 32 conflicts in the world right now and the main purpose of the UN system - to de-escalate various tensions - is still valid," Kamil Wyszkowski, executive director of the United Nations Global Compact Network Poland, told Radio Poland's Danuta Isler during the event.

He added: "That's why we are celebrating UN Day ... We are reminding everyone that the UN values, the UN purpose are simply important and needed."
