The success of the 32nd iteration of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity event reverberates across the globe, as Poland's largest annual fundraiser has managed to collect around EUR 40 million to support healthcare and buy modern medical equipment for hospitals.

The fundraiser captivates the attention of the Polish public and motivates people to unite and lend a helping hand to those in need. However, data from the Warsaw-based Korczak Education Institute show that Poland is facing a crisis in the volunteering sector.

Can events like the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity fundraiser increase Poles' interest in volunteering, or is there more work to do in order to engage society in such civil initiatives?

Radio Poland's Ada Janiszewska ponders these questions.
