The report by the Federation of Polish Food Banks, entitled Don’t Waste Food 2024, underscores a disconcerting yearly wastage of 3 million tons of food in Poland, with consumers responsible for nearly 60 percent of the discarded edibles.
"The most commonly wasted foods are bread, vegetables, fruits and cold cuts— perishables that require proper storage and timely consumption," said the Federation’s spokesman, Łukasz Sołtysiak.
"These items should be eaten relatively quickly, but poor habits often lead to their wastage," he added.
