Speaking to reporters in Warsaw on Monday, Sikorski reaffirmed Poland's "respect for the Iranian people," pointing to a long history of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

However, he stressed that the regime in Tehran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

Sikorski made the remarks at a joint press conference with Rafael Grossi, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
