“With amended regulations … the government is introducing fines of up to PLN 10 million (EUR 2.13 million, USD 2.16 million)," Deputy Environment Minister Jacek Ozdoba said on Wednesday.
He added: "Water pollution penalties are set to go from six months to eight years in prison, and up to 15 years in prison for larger-scale environmental destruction. These are very severe penalties."
Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said on Tuesday that the dead fish from the Oder River had been found to contain no pesticides, while water samples from the river were free of toxins.
