The Lithuanian capital will host the summit on July 11 and 12. While the event's agenda has yet to be finalized, the topic of Russia's war against Ukraine will dominate the talks in Vilnius.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues in its second year, and NATO allies continue to supply Ukraine with sophisticated Western-made weapons. What other deliverables can be expected?
"First and foremost, we are trying to figure out what we will say above and beyond our continued support for Ukraine," Julianne Smith said in an exclusive interview with Polish Radio's Brussels correspondent Beata Płomecka.
She added: "We want to look at how we can strengthen this relationship between the NATO alliance and our friends in Ukraine. We're going to be talking about resourcing, which gets us to the defense investment pledge. We hopefully will be welcoming Sweden in as the 32nd member of the alliance. We will also be rolling out a lot of new initiatives as it relates to deterrence and defense."
