The primary objective of the International Competition of Polish Music is to popularise Polish music worldwide and showcase the masterful works written by 60 distinguished Polish composers, especially from the 19th and 20th century.
The uniqueness of the International Competition of Polish Music, lies in the fact that the candidates submit their own, specially prepared programmes consisting of works written solely by Polish composers.
For obvious reasons, the works of Frederic Chopin are excluded, which means the artists have to search for the unrecognised composers.. The goal of the event is to show that Polish music is not only limited to the great Frederic Chopin.
The event has contributed to several world premiere recordings, including violin duets by Joachim Kaczkowski, Bajka and Burlesque by Artur Malawski, as well as the first sonata by Henryk Pachulski.
One of the highlights of the second edition of the competition, held in 2021, was the world premiere performance of a string quartet by Miłosz Magin, an early composition that had so far only remained in the family archives.
The competition is divided into two categories of performers: pianists and chamber ensembles, who are judged by an international jury composed of renowned scholars and musicians.
The 3rd International Competition of Polish Music winds up at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów on July 9.
