Chanting "equal rights for religion," around 500 people gathered in the Polish capital on Wednesday to protest proposed government changes to religious education in schools.
The new regulations would allow schools to combine students from different classes and different grades for religious education.
Religion teachers fear the move could lead to lay-offs.
“The changes we are implementing, particularly the merging of classes, may affect the employment of ethics and religion teachers,” said Education Minister Barbara Nowacka.
“My priority is to ensure that teachers do not lose their jobs, which is why we are developing additional courses to expand the qualifications and skills of our educators,” she added.
