Poland's Ministry of State Assets has asked state-owned companies what measures they could take in a possible future effort to help rebuild war-ravaged Ukraine, according to a report.

The ministry also wants to gather information about all prewar business links, investment plans and team-ups between Polish and Ukrainian companies, Poland's Rzeczpospolita newspaper has reported.

"Certainly, everyone is now focused on supporting Ukrainians in the fight against Russia's onslaught, but we do realise the full extent of challenges Ukraine will be faced with once the time for reconstruction comes," a spokesperson for the Ministry of State Assets has said.

According to the official, help from Polish state-run companies could include their involvement in business projects, as well as support from highly skilled managers.

The cost of rebuilding Ukraine after the war is now estimated at anywhere from USD 220 billion to USD 540 billion, with Ukraine's GDP expected to tumble by 45 percent this year, according to data cited by The Economist magazine.
