A special fundraiser concert "from Polish mothers to Ukrainian mothers" is being held Sunday evening at Polish Radio's Lutosławski Concert Studio.
May 8 in Ukraine is celebrated as Mother's Day.
As Bogdan Romaniuk, head of the Ulm Family Foundation told Polish Radio, that is exactly why this date was chosen. "In this situation which we have now, when the day is not going to be celebrated in Ukraine and so many Ukrainian mothers are in Poland; we approached Polish Radio to help organize a concert, at which many wonderful artists would perform for the mothers from Ukraine" he told Polish Radio's IAR news service.
As he said, the Foundation also wants to focus on the courage of Ukrainian women, often crossing the border on foot, and with just a small bag, carrying their children in their arms.
"We hope that music, this form of expression is a good idea to help, to enhance a fundraising collection. We want to help the National Children's hospital in Kyiv because that is something everyone will understand, and especially every mother." Paweł Kwieciński of Polish Radio's Programme Bureau added.
Special guest at the event is the Karakevic family of 11, refugees from the area of Yavoriv in Ukraine.
The concert is under the honorary patronage of Poland's First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
Among the artists who have joined the initiative are conductors Piotr Rubik and Janusz Wierzgacz, the band Golec uOrkiestra, Grzegorz Kupczyk, Dariusz Malejonek, Barbara Gąsienica-Giewont, Ricky Lion, Stanisław Plewniak, Izabela Szafrańska the Orchestra of the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Kraków and the Sienna Gospel Choir.
Starting at 7 pm, the concert is broadcast live on Polish Radio One, on Polish Radio's website and social media sites.
The concert inaugurates a collection for the National Children's Hospital in Kyiv. The collection ends on May 26 which is Mother's Day in Poland.
