Andrzej Duda’s remarks came as he opened a Polish-Egyptian Economic Forum in Cairo on Monday, together with Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbuli, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The Polish president said he hoped the event would help boost trade and investment relations between the two countries.

'Main economic partner in this part of the world'

He noted that Egypt is one of Africa’s fastest growing economies and the largest Arab country.

“These and other assets make Egypt Poland’s main economic partner in this part of the world and a natural gateway for our entrepreneurs to other African and Arab markets,” Duda said.

Bilateral trade at $700 million in 2021

The president told the forum that bilateral trade surpassed USD 700 million last year.

"Given the size of our countries, I see huge potential for further cooperation,” he said.

According to Duda, “it is very important that trusted partners make deeper economic ties, especially at a time when the global security architecture has collapsed, there are global environmental problems and issues with food security” due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

‘Polish and Egyptian economies are complementary’

Duda said he had asked the Egyptian authorities to grant Polish firms “an easy, favourable access to the Egyptian market.”

Poland, meanwhile, “offers technologically advanced products and innovative services" in sectors such as IT, telecommunications, food and energy, Duda told the gathering.

“The Polish and Egyptian economies are complementary, which paves the way for cooperation in many sectors,” he concluded.

The Polish president completes his three-day visit to Egypt on Tuesday.
