Poles have collected over 22.8 million zloty to buy a Bayraktar drone for the Ukrainian army. Over 200 thousand chipped in to an on-line collection held on a popular crowdfunding site, topping the required sum of 22.5 million PLN days before the final date.

On Sunday, interest in the fundraiser crashed the site.

The Polish campaign to "Buy Ukraine a Bayraktar" was inspired by a similar fundraising effort done in Lithuania.

Lithuania could send a drone to Ukraine on July 7, after the whole country raised 5.9 EUR to buy it. Bayraktar's Turkish producer offered to supply the drone for free and, after arming it, donate the remainder of the money to a fund for Ukraine.

The final sum collected by Poles will be known after the fundraiser ends in four days. The surplus money is to be forwarded to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, say organizers.
