The Russians have also lost 2,750 tanks, 5,580 armoured personnel vehicles and 1,772 artillery systems, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

On Thursday alone, Ukrainian forces "eliminated" 840 Russian soldiers and destroyed 16 tanks and 28 armoured personnel vehicles, according to the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 391 multiple launch rocket systems, 201 anti-aircraft warfare systems, 277 warplanes, 258 helicopters, 16 warships, and 1,450 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

Ukrainian military officials have said that many of Russia’s newly drafted troops have already been killed on the battlefields of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said last month that Russian generals were treating newly mobilised personnel as easily replaceable "cannon fodder" for their country's aggression against Ukraine.

Friday is day 254 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
