Polish Radio CEO Agnieszka Kamińska said: “From early morning on Friday, Polish Radio will be airing special programmes to mark the anniversary of Russia’s criminal aggression against Ukraine.”

She added: “In addition to music, commentary and news, our reporters on the ground will be covering this anniversary from the Ukrainian front.”

In Solidarity with Ukraine

Polish Radio 2 was set to broadcast two major concerts in tribute to Ukrainians and to those helping Ukraine and its people every day, the public broadcaster’s IAR news agency reported.

On Thursday night, an event entitled In Solidarity With Ukraine was aired live from the Wielki Theatre/Polish National Opera in Warsaw.

Friday will see another special concert broadcast from the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music in the southwestern city of Wrocław, officials said.

New album of Ukrainian songs

Kamińska encouraged listeners to tune in to Polish Radio’s offer of Ukrainian music.

On Friday, the public broadcaster is set to release a new double album of Ukrainian songs, entitled Krajeczka

Recorded at Polish Radio studios, the album features three bands, notably Krajeczka, which includes children of the members of the KRAJKA ensemble, as well as Ukrainian musicians who have fled the war to Poland, the IAR news agency reported.

Special song for Ukraine

At 8.45 a.m. on Friday morning, a special song to mark the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine will be broadcast across all Polish Radio channels, executives said.

Entitled Mamy siebie (We have each other), the song was written by Adam Sztaba and is performed by some of Poland’s leading singers, including Kayah, Igor Herbut and Anna Maria Jopek.

Polish Radio’s Kamińska told reporters: “This song is a unique symbol. Many well-known musicians have joined this initiative.”

Kamińska added: “Let’s not forget that by playing this song we are also supporting Ukraine because the proceeds from radio play will be transferred to the Caritas charity, which will donate the money for the support of Ukraine’s war effort.”

Polish Radio stands with Ukraine

Since Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago, Polish Radio has carried out many solidarity projects in support of refugees who have experienced the hell of war, executives said.

These include programmes in Ukrainian and a special channel called Polish Radio for Ukraine, they added.

Polish Radio is also broadcasting the signal of Ukrainian Radio using DAB+ digital technology.

Moreover, the public broadcaster’s PolskieRadio24.pl website has launched a 24-hour YouTube live stream, providing up-to-date news on the war in Ukraine.

Journalists with Polish Radio’s Ukrainian Section create and present daily news bulletins in Ukrainian.

The broadcaster also offers a language-learning podcast for refugees from Ukraine, called Cześć - uczmy się polskiego razem (Hi, Let’s Learn Polish Together).

Polish Radio has also taken part in many charity projects for Ukraine, including concerts such as Matki Matkom (Mothers for Mothers) and Solidarni z Ukrainą (In Solidarity with Ukraine), and fundraisers, including for a children’s hospital in Kyiv, executives told reporters.

Friday is day 366 of Russia’s war on Ukraine, which started on February 24, 2022.
